A
singer, composer, producer, songwriter, performing artist and
professional narrator, Lameck Ditto has become a household name in the
Tanzanian music industry. His impressive discography of hit songs have
all managed to secure a spot on the music charts in the top 10 hits. Tushukuru Kwa Yote is
regarded as one of his most successful hit songs earning a record 6
weeks on the number one spot of top 10 hits songs. He is also known for
other hit songs such as Dunia ina mambo and Wapo.
Ditto began his music career from the early age of 16, where he sang the chorus of the renowned song Darubini Kali with
the popular artist Afende Sele. The song ignited a nationwide
conversation about the role of artists in our society and positively
changed the view and expectations of what an artist should be. Ditto was
also a member of the group Watu Pori and worked on several other songs among them.
He
joined Tanzania House of Talent in 2009, where he underwent
professional training for four years. After his training, he was
involved in major social campaigns, where he composed and wrote campaign
songs that were instrumental in conveying messages to audiences. Among
his slue of campaign songs are Zinduka Malaria Haikubaliki anthem, which was used to sensitize the general public on the importance of using mosquito nets; 7 billion campaign anthem which was a project conducted by the UNFPA to inform the world about the population status; Sensa campaign song which was a nationwide project aimed educating the public on the importance of the census; NIDA campaign song which was used to encourage Tanzanians to register for their national identification cards; Tokomeza Zero which sensitized the importance of quality education; Maisha Hayatabiriki for SSRA which promoted the use of social security funds.
